Klaudia Bartos
Klaudia Bartos is a Hungarian-born, Christchurch-based artist, her work focuses on surreal and distorted portraiture that is both alluring and unsettling. Exploring paint, ink, print and sculpture.
Klaudia creates bold pieces that evoke intrigue and unease In recent years, Klaudia has expanded into the streets, installing expressive ceramic heads around the city along with handmade stickers and paste-ups, inviting people to encounter art unexpectedly in urban spaces, finding new spaces for her creative expressions.
I See You is a series of surprising additions to the urban landscape – rewarding our inspection and awareness, while also asking questions about perception and experience. From metal fixtures to concrete blocks, brick fences and discarded objects, Klaudia has discreetly added her signature sculpted faces to unexpected surfaces along Worcester Boulevard.
The faces wait for you to notice them, sitting silently, blending into their surroundings. Yet, once you do, they become a puzzling presence, asking questions of our expectations of the urban environment. These small-scaled pieces are highly ephemeral, so you need to keep an eye out for them, they will definitely see you…
